Reviews for Darrell's Diner
Review highlights
Based on 776 reviewsDarrell's Diner is widely appreciated for its comforting, home-style Southern cuisine, evoking a nostalgic, family-like dining experience. Customers frequently praise the generous portion sizes, fresh ingredients, and friendly, attentive service, with staff often highlighted for their hospitality. The menu variety, including popular items like French toast, wraps, and classic diner fare, receives positive mentions. While the overall sentiment is warm and welcoming, occasional feedback points to inconsistencies in certain dishes, such as soups and salads, which some find less satisfying. Despite this, the diner maintains a loyal following, especially among travelers and locals seeking a relaxed atmosphere with reliable, hearty meals at convenient hours.
We've been going by for almost two years now. I kept saying to my wife, we should go there. After many missed attempts I have only one regret...it took almost two years to stop in. Wish we had done it sooner!!! Had the special which was peach French toast with eggs and bacon. My wife had the TBR wrap with fries. All of it was great. Service was above average, thank you Charlie for an amazing first time! If you like or love cozy Ma and Pa style diners then give this one a chance because we are going back tomorrow because of an appointment. We are 40 minutes away and would take this over other places. Oh, one thing of note about the peach compote and whipped cream, they were chef quality. Huge surprise!!!!
The food at Darrell's is always good. It's like having dinner at your grandmother's house. Southern cooking. We went to the Darrell's at 200 5 441 (Pine Ave.) It's the only one that's open late at night.
The cup of potato soup was awful the 2 of us.. salad lacked favor. Sweet tea.Was over 33.00 for
Harrison was wonderful. He was very attentive to the table and always kept our coffee full. Food was good but miss my Aunt Fannie's. It just wasn't the same.
Traveling through from St. Augustine to the Villages. Found this diner. Food very good typical home style food. Great service friendly. Very large portions. Fresh ingredients. Highly recommend. We had a large breakfast order and bacon cheeseburger lunch order. Thanks Mary for your friendliness
My friend and I stopped in for lunch on a whim. I was attracted to the picture of a dog saying "doggone good food". Apparently Darrell's is a chain of restaurants with multiple locations in the Marion, Sumter, and The Villages area, which I have never heard of before. They are open for breakfast and lunch. My friend described it as a real diner. It has customer restrooms, free off street parking. They accept cash, credit and debit cards as payment. Menu is not robust: one double sided menu coveted the extent of the items, but it has common breakfast and lunch options, which was good enough for us. I didn't see that alcohol was served (which makes sense for their operations hours). The tables and dinnerware were clean, staff were friendly. It did take awhile for my bacon and Eggs to arrive while my friend's bacon cheeseburger that also took a bit too long, arrived way before mine. It wasn't busy, so the delay and gap in service of the 2 meals didn't make sense, but the food was good enough when it did get here. They air conditioned inside dining, and a few outside table with a prominent bowl of water for guest dogs. I wouldn't object to going back another time. It was okay.
We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. Kaylee was our server, and she was very attentive. Their breakfast special today was a meat lovers quiche, however we went with our traditional favorites. I had the triple cheese omelette, my husband had the biscuits and gravy. I feel like this is a place that the locals go to. If we are in Ocala again we will definitely come back.
Looking for somewhere to stop and eat in Ocala. This was the first one I noticed. Greeted before getting both feet through the door. Incredibly friendly staff. Food was great and all for a good price. The atmosphere was good, and it smelled great, just like the food they are cooking in the back. As for the political sign, I would only complain about it if the food and service was not good. Thankfully, there is not a complaint in this review. Excellent Job.
